Every now and then you see a statement like “a great future source of energy is hydrogen.” Such statements are lies—hydrogen is only an energy carrier or transfer media and not a substance capable of providing new energy. Hydrogen will never be a source of new energy here on Earth until we figure out how to make nuclear fusion work. This is because chemical uses of hydrogen, be it fuel cells or internal combustion (IC) engines, only work if you start out with free hydrogen: H2 .
People often ask what they can do personally to help reduce energy consumption and humanity's impact on the environment. When global warming or the energy crisis are discussed it is natural to focus on the obvious large targets: transportation, generating electrical power, green buildings, etc. Other than buying compact fluorescent light bulbs or a hybrid automobile what can you do? How about staying home from work?
This article came from moneyrunner on The Virginian blog site. It was too good to pass up. Here is every word. Enjoy the exposure of another two-faced pol.
She still doesn't get it. Bush issues an Executive Order to remove the ban on off shore drilling and oil drops $40 a barrel and gasoline drops 40 cents a gallon. Her argument is that oil companies have plenty of off shore leases but haven't drilled. Hey Nancy, are you that stupid, or is it just an act. If there was oil under those leases you best believe oil companies would be drilling. There is a thing called "technology" in the oil patch. Guys have something called "instruments" that tells them where the reservoir might be. Get it? Can you put that together?
As if there weren't already enough confusion swirling around the US energy plan, or lack their of, now Paris Hilton, celebutant and well know party girl, has thrown her plan into the ring. In an online video, a swimsuit clad Hilton announced her candidacy for president and suggested an energy plan that combined elements of McCain's offshore oil drilling plan and Barack Obama's incentives for new energy technology. “I want America to know that I'm, like, totally ready to lead,” the sultry, blond heiress cooed to the camera.
Looking over the people who have been named Crank of the Week on this website it would appear that we are anti-Democrat or at least right wingers—this is not the case. We are equal opportunity debunkers of muzzy headed thinking and to prove it here is a collection of short takes on dumb ideas that span the political spectrum.
Lest you think that this site is all doom and gloom, concerned only with debunking eco-naysayers and energy illiterate politicians, this post contains some items of good news. As mentioned elsewhere on this site, Texas oilman T. Boone Pickens has kicked off a gigantic wind power project in the Texas panhandle, accompanied by a number of high-impact TV ads that seem to be aimed at moving the US Congress off its duff.
Doug Hoffman and I wrote "The Resilient Earth" to educate a mass audience about the wonders and complexities of Earth and its ever-changing climate. If you click on 'The Book' in the upper right hand corner, you will see, for now anyway, the whole show. Read a few chapters and give us your thoughts.
Also, to your left, is the day's price of oil and some past graphs. Don't click the mouse just move the orange square around.
