This is not bad news. CO2 is reactive. It is not inert. Reaction with minerals like calcium and magnesium can lead to permanent sequestration as limestone which likely would be permanent. It's interesting that the chorite that was dissolved away can contain magnesium. I'd be curious as to what was formed from the material in the pore space.
