Nominate Judith Curry as the next IPCC Chair

As you may know, the current head of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), Rajenda K. Pachauri has been forced to resign over sexual harassment allegations by women on his staff. Out on bail, Pachauri’s downward spiral continues: On March 1, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi accepted Pachauri’s resignation from the Prime Minister’s climate change council. Given this opening at the top of the world's premier climate change organization we think it time a real climate scientist heads the agency. Help us by signing the petition to President Obama today.

WE PETITION THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION TO:

Nominate Judith Curry as the next Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel On Climate Change.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, an organization created by the World Meteorological Organization and the United Nations Environmental Programme, will elect a new chair this year. The post is currently being filled by an interim chair following the resignation of Rajendra Pachauri.

The United States has currently nominated Dr. Chris Field. We petition the current administration to withdraw his nomination and instead nominate Dr. Judith Curry.

Judith A. Curry is an American climatologist and former chair of the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Her integrity, understanding of the science and related policy issues make her a better choice, for the IPCC and American interests as well. About Dr. Chris Field

…from a Wiki bio

"Field is the founding director of the Carnegie Institution's Department of Global Ecology.[4] Field received his PhD fromStanford University in 1981 and has been at the Carnegie Institution for Science since 1984. Field is also a Professor of Biology and Environmental Earth System Science at Stanford University,[3] the Faculty Director of Stanford's Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve, and a member of the US National Academy of Sciences. He was a coordinating lead author for the fourth assessment report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change… Field’s work has been to quantify the global climate impact of deforestation, agriculture and other changes in vegetation cover. “

Perhaps, rather than an ecological expert, an expert from outside the IPCC box with a climate science background is preferable. hhp

nomination for IPCC Chair

As an outsider looking in, I would greatly welcome Judith Curry as the next IPCC Chair. An outstanding climatologist such as Judith Curry, rather than an outstanding ecologist, is required to get the IPCC operating in a functional meaningful role. Ms. Curry is an active researcher who has written greatly appreciated recent articles in the Canadian media explaining climatological issues in a layman's language.

Unfortunately, politics drives appointments in the UN bureaucracy. Keep in mind, the perplexing UN definition of climate change: " A change of climate which is attributable directly or indirectly to human activity that alters the composition of the global atmosphere and which is in addition to natural climate variability over considerable time periods."

Nevertheless, I will send this link to my relatives and colleagues living in the US.
